The $1100 vanity I can't stop thinking about
my situationship with a vanity from Urban Outfitters
This vanity from Urban Outfitters is completely out of my price range, but I just can’t stop thinking about it. Sure, I could buy it with Affirm, Klarna, or one of those buy-now-pay-later plans—but right now, I’m focused on reducing debt, not adding to it. So, anything I purchase this year that isn’t a necessity? I’m paying for it outright.
But back to the point of this post, I’ve wanted a vanity for years. I’ve reached the point where I seriously dread standing up in the bathroom to do my hair, skincare rituals, or my minimal makeup routine and lashes.
One day as I was scrolling through Pinterest, I saw this beauty and I have kept my eye on it ever since. It’s small! It’s velvet! And it comes in colors other than beige, white, and gray! Look at the piping detail and the walnut drawer and mirror. It’s such an adorable beauty of a vanity.

Now, if you have clicked the link on this vanity you probably have already scrolled down to see that the reviews aren’t that great. Mainly the reviews talk about the mirror randomly breaks (eek!).
Still, even with the not-so-glowing reviews, I keep coming back to it. Like, I’m fully in a situationship with this vanity. I know it’s probably not good for me (especially at a price tag of $1100), I know it might disappoint me in the end, and yet I keep thinking about it.
But here’s what this vanity is actually teaching me: I want to romanticize my routines more. I want getting ready to feel like an act of self-care, not a rushed chore squeezed between all the other things I have to do. I want a little corner of my world that feels like I am truly prioritizing me.
So no, I’m not buying the $1100 velvet, mirror-may-or-may-not-shatter vanity. But I am keeping an eye out for something that gives me the same feeling—just with better reviews and a lower price tag.
If you’ve found a vanity that makes you feel like the main character without making your wallet cry, send me the link. I’m ready to fall in love (again).
What I’m Watching + Reading (and Listening)
📺 Hacks S3 – I was so excited for Hacks to return and now that it is back it definitely does not disappoint. Jean Smart continues to be a gem and the comedic duo with her and Hannah Einbinder is gold!
📺 The Handmaid’s Tale – I truly did not want to watch this, lol. But since I have watched every other season and they are finally ending the show, I feel some sort of obligation to watch so I can see how this all ends.
📺 The Studio – I’m not the biggest Seth Rogin fan but I gotta say that this show is so enjoyable to watch. It’s about a team of execs at a movie studio in Hollywood and shows the (fictional) behind the scenes of how movies get made.
Don’t buy the vanity. We had one and one day the mirror spontaneously shattered. Luckily it was in the first year (11 months ) so they did refund after they picked it up, but it was not an easy process and took many, many phone calls of begging and pleading until I got the right rep who actually had the vanity and it happened to her too. She this is a known defect with several reviews saying theirs shattered too.
